Netherlands and Romania dominate first judo day in Prague
The Netherlands and Romania were the two most dominant nations at the European Open in Czech Republic. Under remarkable conditions the European Open was held in the city where last year a successful European Championships were organised. Both the Dutch and Romanian team were able to capture three titles. Belgian won gold U52kg by Amber Ryheul.

Paralympic judo referees announced officially by IJF
The referees of the Paralympic Games in Tokyo have been announced by the IJF and were sent to the national Federations. Among the twelve referees one lady, Ioana Babiuc of Romania, much less than the Olympic Games where 5 women were chosen in a selection of 16 referees.

The Jeon Ki-Young Story Part 3: 1996 Atlanta Olympics
For the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, many judo fans were still hopeful of yet another showdown between Jeon Ki-Young and Hidehiko Yoshida, who was the defending Olympic champion but this was not to be as Yoshida got thrown for ippon in the first round by Adrian Croitoru of Romania. An overly confident Yoshida should have been more careful as Croitoru had given him a hard time at the 1995 Tokyo World Championships. Odette Giuffrida poised to win a medal this time
Potential judo gold for Russia is melting under the heat of the European Judo Championships in Prague. Four time gold medallist Natalia Kuziutina surprisingly lost her quarter final against the experienced Andreea Chitu of Romania and sent Kuziutina back to the repechage contests. Chitu showed to be able to stunt today. She is double European Champion herself in this category and is in great shape given today’s route to the final so far and her bronze at the Grand Slam in Budapest.
