Vedat Albayrak third Grand Slam winner ever for Turkey
The category U81kg in Budapest was interesting with a good field of some of the top players, but lacking the top three in the world. With the presence of the world number 4, Vedat Albayrak of Turkey, the world and Olympic medalist Antoine Valois-Fortier (CAN), the reigning Olympic Champion Khasan Khalmurzaev (RUS) and the 2018 World Champion Saeid Mollaei (MGL), the U81kg group was particularly generous to its spectators on the occasion of this grand slam.

Judo in the time of Covid-19: Bilal Ciloglu
Perhaps the biggest talent of Turkey ever, Bilal Ciloglu became Junior World Champion in 2018 and for sure he will qualify for the Games, but he wants more, why not in 2021. Turkey closed quite late for the coronacrisis, Oon Yeoh of JudoCrazy asked him how he is doing and all about his ambitions and weapons.

Judo in the time of Covid-19: Mikael Ozerler aka Miha Zgank
In the beginning of this Olympic cycle Slovenian judoka Mihael Zgank took a silver medal at the World Championships in Budapest. It took a while but he switched to Turkey and took the name of Mikail Ozerler. Ozerler clinched the gold at the Grand Prix in Antalya in 2019 and captured the European Games gold in Minsk. We can’t say this qualification for his second Olympic Games was boring. JudoCrazy’s Oon Yeoh spoke to the current European Champion U90kg.

Super talent Bilal Ciloglu claims first Grand Slam for Turkey
Bilal Ciloglu produced the best display of his young career as he defeated world number eight Arthur Margelidon (CAN) to claim the U73kg title in Abu Dhabi and became the first Turkish man to win Grand Slam gold. The world number 17 from Turkey, who was in his first Grand Slam final, came up with the only score in the first men’s final of the day as he caught Margelidon with a ko-uchi-gake for a waza-ari score with 20 seconds left on the clock.

Turkey grabs gold at EYOF Mixed team event
At the last day of the Judo Tournament at the European Youth Olympic Festival, the team of Turkey captured the EYOF Mixed team title. The Turkish were amazing the whole week and summarized the week with a 4-0 victory of the youth of Russia, it says it all.
