Anna-Maria Wagner makes a giant step with gold in Tel Aviv
At the Judo Grand Slam in Tel Aviv France and Germany put the Franco-German friendship into brackets for a day. Each of the two semifinals presented a French and a German. The first to hit was Fanny Estelle Posvite (FRA).

The Jeon Ki-Young Story Part 4: 1997 Paris World Championships
The 1997 Paris World Championships was to be Jeon Ki-young’s last hurrah at the world level. Judo fans would have loved to see one final rematch with Yoshida but the Japanese champion had suffered an arm injury at the Atlanta Olympics, which put him out of training for nearly a year, and thus out of contention for the 1997 World’s. Interestingly, the person who broke Yoshida’s arm in Atlanta was Germany’s Marko Spittka, who would turn out to be Jeon’s final match opponent. Oon Yeoh writes about Jeon Ki-Young.

Austria and Germany international judo match
The prestige duel between Austria and Germany will take place in exactly one week at 27 August in the evening. Both nations are looking forward to the international match that will be held at ORF in Vienna. The German team has made some changes in the line-up and the Austrians also have to reschedule.

Yvonne Boenisch became 2004 Olympic Champion in Athens. That one day that changed her career, her life as she lost two World Championships final, but it was all worth it. She knew this was her day. After her career she became a coach, first in Germany in her city Potsdam and later as coach of the Israelian women’s team. Oon Yeoh spoke to Boenisch about that one day, her opponents and her current job in the time of Covid-19.

Anna-Maria Wagner is the chosen one to represent Germany at the Tokyo Olympic Games. In a direct match she defeated her opponent Luise Malzahn at the Grand Slam in Düsseldorf, a great relief. Still she had to take a medal and she did, that was the moment she realized that she qualified for Tokyo, but it all went a different way and Wagner got stuck like many other. JudoCrazy’s Oon Yeoh asked her about her Covid-19 experiences.
