Asian Champion Kirari Yamaguchi shines with gold in Tashkent
In the final for women U63kg of the Grand Slam in Tashkent, Kirari Yamaguchi (JPN) and Inbal Shemesh (ISR) came forward, each aware of the other’s skills and preferences. Early on, Shemesh put in a huge effort to pick up her opponent but Yamaguchi was ready for it and could avoid a bad situation. After that, a sort of stalemate was reached and both were penalised.

Inbal Shemesh belongs to the big guns now
The final of the Grand Slam in Baku U63kg between Van Den Berg (NED) and Israel’s Shemesh, who had made her way to the final quietly and without pretentiousness, was fought honestly and with humility on show from both. There were shidos to begin with but Shemesh eventually found her rhythm and used a counter we have seen many times before to win her second grand slam gold. It was disappointing for the Dutch fighter, who saw her first gold on the WJT slip away.

Inbal Shemesh surprises with gold in Tbilisi
Among the top twelve in the world ranking, Ketleyn Quadros was the only one who travelled to Tbilisi. The Brazilian is number six in the world started as a favourite. She didn't fail and didn't get too tired either, reaching the final as planned. The name of her opponent remained to be seen and there were doubts, for just a few minutes, the time it took for Inbal Shemesh to enter the tatami.
