Fan favourite Joshiro Maruyama retires
Judo fans around the world are in shock of the retirement of one of the best ever fan pleasers, Joshiro Maruyama. The former world champion of 2019 and 2021 U66kg announced his retitement today and thanks the fans for their support. Maruyama started judo at the age of three with the goal to become Olympic Champion. In a tough battle everyone remembers the 28 minutes he fought against Hifumi Abe who eventually qualfied for the Tokyo Olympic Games and won the gold in his own country.

He began his international senior career in 2013 when he competed in the Tokyo Grand Slam. There, he lost in the semifinal against the stylish Brazilian player, Charles Chibana, in the quarterfinal.
