Brazilian Ronald Lima doesn't surprise himself with gold
Current junior world champion Shuntaro Fukuchi (JPN) arrived in the arena to fight for gold with Ronald Lima (BRA) facing him. The young Brazilian has placings at recent grand slams but never a medal and so he was already in a great position, knowing he would leave Austria with his first World Judo Tour medal. Fukuchi, two years younger, also has no reference on the WJT but he could not be expected to at such a young age. With Luukas Saha and Elios Manzi in the group but getting nowhere near the medals, the young ones are laying their claim to this Olympic cycle.

Elios Manzi outstanding in Abu Dhabi and follows Manuel Lombardo
The Italian men and women are gaining momentum this year especially in the lightweight categories where in each division they have a few contenders. It is not different in U66kg where both Elios Manzi and Matteo Piras were able to go for the medals at the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi. Elios Manzi had an outstanding day and captured the gold medal against Serbia’s Strahinja Buncic who never made it to a final in the IJF World Judo Tour.
