Anna-Monta Olek is an asset for Germany’s future U78kg
In the gold medal contest for women U78kh in Portugal Anna-Monta Olek claimed the gold medal against Metka Lobnik of Slovenia. The contest developed with a high pace and a great number of attacks. Notting much time passed before Lobnik attempted a huge pick up but she misjudged the balance and Olek adjusted, stepped around and fell almost straight into a hold down. She didn’t waste any further energy, holding position until the full 20 seconds passed. Olek, number 3 on the German team behind Wagner and Boehm, was number one in Odivelas.

Sensational victory for Swiss Nils Stump
We know that Wandtke knows better than anybody how to outdo himself when he faces legendary judoka. He was, to everyone's surprise, the victory over the double Olympic champion, Shohei Ono (JPN), during the mixed team tournament of the Tokyo 2020 Games, throwing him twice for waza-ari. At the Grand Slam in Tel Aviv, it was World Champion Tsend-Ochir who paid the price for facing the Wandtke tornado and it was therefore the German who qualified for the final U73kg against Swiss Nils Stump.

Cavelius shines but Tato Grigalashvili reigns in Paris
Unseeded German Tim Cavelius had an incredible day in Paris. He took out the Brazilian and then Del Orbe Cortorreal (DOM) before throwing Gauthier-Drapeau (CAN) twice for a place in the semi-final. Hurdling Djalo then put him in the final. The top half of the draw brought top favourite Tato Grigalashvili (GEO) and Vedat Albayrak (TUR) to their rightful places in the first semi-final. Kohara (JPN) had been cited as a possible stumbling block for the Georgian world number 1 but that was not the case.
