Party for Tajikistan with three medallists on the podium U66kg
The final for men U66kg at the Dushanbe Grand Slam guaranteed a medal chance for the host nation Tajikistan, but the end result was an individual gold medal for Nurali Emomali. Obid Dzhebov and Nurali Emomali offered on a golden platter to a delirious crowd at the end of their respective semi-finals. It must be said that the only spoiler could have been Yashar Najafov (AZE), who was the only judoka to reach the final four, not from Tajikistan. Unfortunately for him but luckily for the audience, he was defeated by Dzhebov.

Yago Abuladze tasts gold in Odivelas
Former World Champion Yago Abuladze (AIN) won his first Grand prix title since five years in Tashkent. In Portugal he was the winner of the U66kg category. The level of the category was high throughout the day, offering us very high quality contests with a lot of commitment, a great pre-cursor to the final between Yashar Najafov (AZE), winner of the Heydar Aliyev Baku Grand Slam 2023 and Abuladze. He was back in Lisbon where he took a bronze medal at the 2021 European Championships.

Yashar Najafov claims the fame in Baku
Yashar Najafov surprised with a thrilling gold medal today at home at the Grand Slam of Baku. The Azeri did not tremble against a determined Vieru in the semi final and offered himself a place in the final, although at the start of the competition, he was not one of the favourites. In IJF's golden score he was still impressed by his own final. He had no plan for the day and was susprised about his performance. His hero is Elchin Ismayilov who is now the coach who supported his career along the way to gold. His next goal is the European Championships in Montpellier in November.

Azerbaijan continues good results with golden Yashar Najafov
Azerbaijani Yashar Najafov had his best day in his judo career winning the Grand Prix in Zagreb in a tough field where some of the favourites went out quickly. To get to the final Najafov blew out Bulgarian Yanislav Gerchev in the semi-finals. His opponent was Italian outsider Matteo Piras. Azerbaijan continues to show good results in the IJF World Tour.
