Strong french women prevail in Benidorm
France emerged victorious at the European Open in Benidorm on Saturday, topping the medal table ahead of host nation Spain and Ukraine. A high-calibre line-up, particularly in the women’s -70kg category, delivered a thrilling showdown between reigning World Champion Margaux Pinot (FRA) and 2023 World silver medallist Giovanna Scoccimarro (GER). The tense final extended into golden score, ending with a third shido against Scoccimarro, handing the win to Pinot.

3-2-1 ... gold for Melkia Auchecorne this after winning all medals this year
In the final Melkia Auchecorne arrived as the more aggressive of the two but as time went on Narumi Tanioka came closer to a win in ne-waza. Tanioka suffered under the pressure of Auchecorne though and collected two penalties. In golden score the French judoka also earned a shido but it didn't seem to have an impact on her attitude or approach as she knew she was leading the fight.

Romane Dicko sets unique streak of golden European performances
Romane Dicko of France made history in Podgorica by claiming her fifth European title, once again overcoming her long-time rival Raz Hershko of Israel in the women’s heavyweight final. Dicko had to dig deep to manage the final, as Hershko initially disrupted her rhythm and prevented her from establishing her usual dominance.

Two Olympic Champions missing in the team of Azerbaijan for maiden Grand Slam
The Azeri home team have swamped the entry and seem to be offering a challenge the foreign teams at the Grand Slam in Baku. However there are two huge names missing, their absence starkly obvious; current Olympic and world champions Hidayat Heydarov and Zelym Kotsoiev. Without the golden pair though, there are still some exciting routes to the podium to focus on, undoubtedly.
